      TASED TO DEATH

    Once again a police department is faced with the situation of a police officer killing a citizen instead of protecting its citizens. There is no question that circumstances arise where the police must take individuals into custody. The use of tasers while seen as a peaceful non-lethal manner of arresting citizens is turning into a method of killing.

    In the latest death a Florida man was said to be struggling and was tased to restrain him. The taser did more than restrain him it killed him. The video is being reviewed by police and has not been released.

   A number of controls must be placed on the taser. The most obvious is a limit upon the amount of volts which the taser can deliver to any human being. Second restrictive rules as to its use must also be developed to make the taser a weapon of last resort where guns can not be used. Until this occurs we will continue to see citizens killed at the hands of overreaching government officials.
